Marketing doesn’t fail because companies run out of ideas. It fails because ideas don’t become systems.
Marketing generates leads.
Sales complains about quality.
Customers disappear.
The CRM fills up.
Reports get presented.
And next Monday…
…everyone starts again.
That’s not marketing.
That’s a series of disconnected activities pretending to be a system.
A true marketing system answers one simple question:
“What should happen next?”
At every stage.
I call it the T.A.P.S. Framework.
Touchpoint ? Action ? Progression ? Success
Every customer interaction should move the prospect one step closer to becoming a customer.
1. TOUCHPOINT:
First identify every place where a customer can discover you.
Google Search.
AI search engines.
LinkedIn.
Referrals.
Websites.
Events.
Cold emails.
WhatsApp.
YouTube.
Reviews.
Existing customers.
Today, AI can even identify your Ideal Customer Profile, crawl the web, build prospect lists, monitor buying signals and personalise outreach at scale.
The first question is no longer, “How do we market?”
It is, “Where does our customer meet us?”
2. ACTION
For every touchpoint, define the action you want the customer to take.
Read an article.
Download a guide.
Watch a video.
Take an assessment.
Request an audit.
Book a demo.
Join a webinar.
Reply to an email.
Every touchpoint should have only one clear next action.
AI can now personalise content, generate creatives, write emails, recommend offers, optimise SEO and AEO, run intelligent chat agents and adapt messaging based on visitor behaviour.
3. PROGRESSION
Now decide what happens after the action.
If someone downloads a report…
…what happens in the next hour?
The next day?
The next week?
Should an AI agent qualify the lead?
Should the CRM assign a score?
Should sales be alerted?
Should another case study be shared?
Should a personalised follow-up be triggered?
Marketing is not about collecting leads.
It is about designing movement.
Every action must trigger the next action automatically.
4. SUCCESS
Finally, define what success looks like.
Not impressions.
Not clicks.
Not even leads.
Success is when a prospect moves to the next stage.
Visitor to Lead.
Lead to Conversation.
Conversation to Proposal.
Proposal to Customer.
Customer to Repeat Customer.
Repeat Customer to Advocate.
Measure every conversion between stages.
That’s where revenue is created.
The companies winning today are building systems where AI, automation and people work together to ensure that every customer interaction creates momentum.
Campaigns come and go.
Systems compound.
So before approving your next marketing budget, ask yourself:
Can you map every customer touchpoint?
Do you know the next action expected at each one?
And if your marketing team disappeared for a week…
Would your marketing system continue working?
